Morton Cemetery Location: Haymarket, Virginia, west side of Fayette Street, 500 feet south of Route #55. Prince William Co., Virginia DATE: About 1862. OWNERS: Land was owned by William Skinker, prior to 1799, now owned by Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church, and held in trust by Vestry. DESCRIPTION: About eighty Confederate soldiers were buried here at the beginning of the War Between the States, and some of the makers of the early history of this community. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The Confederate soldiers who were buried here and the following: Sarah Hulfish wife of George Hulfish born 1818 died 1885 A devoted wife a loving mother and kind friend, We hope to meet in Heaven. Edmund Berkeley Lt. Col. 8th Va. Infantry Born 1824 died 1915 Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. Mary Berkeley wife of Col. Edmund Berkeley born 1827 died 1894 I know my sheep and am known by them. Wm. Meade born 1824 died 1891 And I heard a voice from Heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of great thunders, and I heard a voice of harpers harping on their harps.
