Whereas Godfrey Ridge of the County of Spotsylvania did obtain a Promise of a Deed for Two hundred and ninety two Acres of wasted and ungranted Land lying in the County of Prince William from Col. Carter late Agent, But forasmuch as the said Deed tho drawn and recorded in the office in Book D Fol. 29 was not Executed by the sd. Agent before his Death, and the sd. Godfrey Ridge renewing his Request for sd. Land as having been always ready to pay the Composition and alien Dues, Know ye that for the Causes aforesaid for and in Consideration of the sd. Composition to me paid And for the annual Rent hereafter Received I have given granted and confirmed and by these Presents for me my Heirs and Assigns do Give Grant and Confirm unto the sd. Godfrey Ridge one certain Tract or Parcel of waste and ungranted Land Containing Two hundred and Ninety two Acres situate lying and being in the County of Prince William on both sides of the Broad Run of Occoquan between Col. Carters Land and the Mountain and Bounded as followeth, viz. Beginning at A.., a White oak in the Thoroughfare of Broad Run and Extending thence N. 85 E. 260 Po. to B., Col. Carter's Line on Catlett's Branch, thence SW 150 Po. to Broad Run then down the run S 15. W 132 poles to a Poplar and Sycamore on the Run side then S 82 1/2 W 200 poles then under the mountain N 18 1/2 E 253 poles to the Beginning Together with all Rights Premises and Appurtenances thereunto belonging Royal Mines Excepted And a full Third part of all Lead Copper Tinn Coal Iron Mines and Iron Ore that shall be found thereon To have and to hold the said Two hundred and Ninety two Acres of Land together with all Rights Proffits and Benefits to the same arising or in any Wise appertaining Except before Excepted To him the sd. Godfrey Ridge his Heirs and Assigns forever and the sd Godfrey Ridge his Heirs and Assigns therefore Yielding and Paying to me my Heirs and Assigns my certain Attorney or Attorneys Agent or Agents or to the certain Attorney or Attorneys Agent or Agents of my Heirs and Assigns, Proprietors of the said Northern Neck Yearly and every year on the Feast Day of St. Michael the Arch Angel the Fee Rent of One Shilling Sterling Money for every Fifty Acres of Land hereby Granted and so Proportionally for a Greater or Lesser Quantity Provided that if the said Godfrey Ridge his Heirs or Assigns shall not pay the before Reserved annual rent so that the same or any part thereof shall be behind or unpaid by the Space of Two whole Years after the same shall come Due if lawfully demanded that then it shall and may be lawful for Me my Heirs or Assigns or their certain Attorney or Attorneys Agent or Agents into the above Granted Premises to Reenter and Hold the same so as if this grant had never Passed Given at my office in the County of King George within my said Proprietary under my Hand and Seal Dated the twenty fourth Day of June in this Seventh year of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King defender of the Faith ---Anno Dom.
