Cuthbert Bullitt will, 1791, Prince William County, Va. ______________ In the Name of God amen I Cuthbert Bullitt of Prince William County, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament. I give to my grandson Cuthbert son of Alexander Bullitt, and His Heirs for Ever, Seven Hundred and fifty Acres of Land in Kentucky purchased by me of George Mays. I Give to my son Thomas Bullitt and his Heirs Forever, my tract of Land lying in Quantico neck as the same has been conveyed to him in Trust. I also Give to him and his heirs forever, all my Lands lying in Fauquier County, containing the old tract of upwards of Eight Hundred acres, also the Tract I purchased of the widow of the late Reverend John Scott containing upwards of Six Hundred acres, and also a Tract of upwards of two Hundred acres purchased of John Waller; He my said son paying the money that is due to the Parish of Dettingen, & the Balance which I still owe to Waller, having paid upwards of one hundred pounds. I Give further to my said son Thomas & his Heirs forever out of my four tracts of land lying upon the waters of Pleasant Run and Reach for in Kentucky fifteen Hundred acres of Same to be laid off in a body. I Give to my four Daughters, Frances, Sarah, Helen & Sophia; To Frances a Negroe Girl now in Her possession, Daughter of black Nelly, also the Negroes now in her Possession except the Negro Boy Hector. I give to my Daughter Sarah a Negro Girl about ten or Eleven years old the Daughter of Cate now under my overseer James Wood, as also Seven Pounds Cash. I Give to my Daughter Helen and her Heirs for ever the Negroe Girl called Molly - Daughter of Nelly. I Give to my Daughter Sophia a Negroe Girl named Jane, the Daughter of Hester. I Give to my three Daughters, Sarah, Helen & Sophia five hundred pounds Each, to be paid them in slaves by Equal allotment a young fellow to be considered as worth seventy five Pounds, and a young wench as worth sixty Pounds, and other slaves at a Proportinate [sic] a price so to be set apart as to make their lots as Equal as possible. I Give to my wife and Children five Pounds each to purchase them a Mourning Ring. I Give to my son Thomas my small sword. I desire so much of the Remainder of my Estate as there may be cause for (after my Debts that can be collected in a Reasonable time shall be applied) to be sold by my Executors and the remainder of my said Debts to be discharged thereout. All the Rest and Residue of my Estate after my Debts are paid, I Give to be Equally Divided among my four Daughters, Frances, Sarah, Helen, and Sophia, and their Heirs forever. The small bequest in this my will to my wife is to have no Effect with respect to her Dower, it being my will that she shall have the same Exclusive. I give further to my four Daughters, Frances, Sarah, Helen, & Sophia and their Heirs forever, four acres of land adjoining upon the Town of Newport & Potomac River, as also the Lots undisposed of in the said Town Except the Ferry Lots & Ferries, which I give to my son Thomas and his Heirs forever. I appoint my wife, my sons Alexander and Thomas my son in Law William Garrard and my Friends Thomas Blackburn, Alexander Henderson, Geo: Graham, The Reverend Thomas Harrison and Mr. John Pope Guardians to my Children and Executors to this my last will and Testament. In testamony whereof I have Hereunto set my Hand and seal this 16th Day of May one thousand seven hundred and ninety one.
