Written: February 20, 1814 Will of Daniel King 20 February 1814 In the name of God Amen, I Daniel King of the county of Prince William and state of Virginia being sick and weak of body but of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and ordain this as and for my last will and testament in manner and form following ~ viz ~ I give and bequeath to my wife Sally King for and during her natural life or widowhood all my estate both real and personal with power if she thinks proper on consultation with and advice of my executors hereafter names to sell all or any part of my land, stock or household furniture for the purpose of adding more effectually to hers and my childrens comfort and situation in life, after the death of my wife I desire that all my personal property then remaining except negroes be sold and the money arising from such sale to be equally divided among my children then living or their heirs in the manner hereafter named, and my negroes be annually hired out and the money arising from such hire annually distributed by my Excors. among my children, It is my earnest with that the negroes be treated with humanity, and have the liberty (as far as it may be deemed proper & prudent by my Executors) of choosing their masters, or to whom they will be hired; I have heretofore given to some of my children namely Jane Davis, to the amount of about twenty pounds, to Daniel King about ten pounds, to Craven King about twelve pounds to Absolem King about seven pounds, for all of which seems I leave accounts against them with an intention that the several amounts shall be deducted from their respective portions of my estate and place all my children on an equal footing, I have a military claim for lands in the western country which I desire my executors may use all diligence in obtaining and which if obtained I give devise and bequeath to my three sons Daniel, Craven & Absolem. It is my wish and desire that if any my children die leaving a child or children that the money and property such child should be entitled to from my estate shall remain in the hands of my Executors for the benefit of such child or children and paid them respectively as they attain the age of twenty one years or marry, without my executors being responsible for the Interest thereon- I desire that my debts be as speedily paid out of the debts due me and the growing crop as possible and if these should prove insufficient that my Exectuors well such of my personal property as in their opinoins can best be spared for that purpose, Lastly, I nominate and appoint my wife Sally Executrise and my sons Daniel and Craven Executors of this my last will and testament.
