Biography of Daniel L. Blair - Pulaski Co. VA Source: The Index to Pulaski County History in Hardesty's 1884 DANIEL L. BLAIR--son of Sampson and Louisa (LOCKETT) BLAIR , was born in Wythe county, Virginia, in 1839, and was married in Pulaski county on the 5th of May 1875. On that date, Sarah L. KING, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth KING, of Mercer county, West Virginia, but now residents in Pulaski county, became his wife. They have two daughters: Elizabeth L., born May 23, 1876; Mary E., born January 13, 1878. In 1861, Daniel L. BLAIR enlisted in the Forty-Fifth Virginia Infantry, Company D, at Wytheville, and went into the campaign of Western Virginia. He was in the battle of Carnifax Ferry, fought with great valor and little loss to the Southern troops, while the Federal loss was very heavy; then in the engagement of Sewell Mountain, then in Lewisburg, then Lafayette Courthouse, where in a severe engagement, September 10, 1862, D. L. BLAIR was wounded. He was sent home to recover, and joined his regiment again at Charlottesville. He was soon after made prisoner and sent to Fort Delaware, where he remained until the close of the war. He was shot in the right eye and right leg, and the ball in his leg has never been removed.
