Biography of Joseph W. Clark - Pulaski Co. VA Source: The Index to Pulaski County History in Hardesty's 1884 JOSEPH W. CLARK - born in Pulaski county in 1849, is a son of John and Eliza (FUGATE) CLARK, who were born and raised in this county. In 1870 he married Elizabeth BROWN, born in Pulaski county in 1851, and the home established by their union is brightened with the presence of three children, born: Mary J., October 18, 1872; John W., April 20, 1874; Margaret B., October 12, 1876. Crocket M. and Margaret (GROSENBERRY) BROWN, natives of Pulaski county, are the parents of Elizabeth, wife of Mr. CLARK. Dr. CLARK, regimental surgeon with Wickers Battallion, Confederate service through the war between the states, is a brother of Joseph W. CLARK. Another brother was in the service as a member of Pickets Division, and he was killed in the battle of Seven Pines, July, 1862. John CLARK died in 1862 at the age of sixty-five years, and just before his death he lost a brother in the army, who was killed in action. The grandfather of Joseph W. came to Pulaski county from South Carolina and entered a large tract of land among the first settlers here. Of this land, very little has been sold, the most of it being still in the possession of his heirs. Joseph W. owns 23 1/2 acres, worth $100 an acre, some of the best bottom land on New River. For three years he has been in the employ of the Radford Company as engineer, and still continues to fill the position. His postoffice address is Radford Furnace, Pulaski county, Virginia.
