Biography of C. H. Faris - Pulaski Co. VA Source: The Index to Pulaski County History in Hardesty's 1884 C.H. FARIS -- son of James and Martha (ALLISON) FARIS, was born October 27, 1842, in Wythe County, Virginia. In August, 1861, he enlisted in Company F, Fifty Fourth Virginia Infantry, at Newbern, Pulaski County, and went into camp at Christiansburg, Montgomery county. The brigade of which the regiment was part was then ordered into Kentucky, and took part in a hard fight at Prestonburg, falling back into Virginia. They took part in a hard fight at Princeton, Raleigh county, in May 1862, and later in the same year went back into Kentucky, and after some heavy skirmishing found themselves once more on Virginia soil, and went to take part in the engagement of Norfolk, thence to Knoxville, Tennessee, and from there to the engagement of Chickamauga, where the regiment was badly cut up in two days fighting. Their next fight was at Chattanooga, after which they went into winter quarters at Dalton, Georgia. In the fight of Stone Mountain, the Federals were driven to Atlanta, and there C.H. FARIS was take prisoner, July 20, 1864, and sent to Camp Douglas, Chicago. Here he remained until June 20, 1865, when he took the oath of allegiance and reached his home on the first of July 1865. In 1866 he made his home in Pulaski County, engaging in farming, and in this county, Dec 5, 1866, he married Virginia JENNINGS. Her parents, William and Ruth (BOLT) JENNINGS, reside in Carroll County, Virginia, and she was born in that county May 10, 1845. The children of Mr. And Mrs. FARIS were born: W.F., September 14, 1867; C.H., August 22, 1869; Rhoda E., November 2, 1871; Joanna, May 28, 1873; J.T., November 2, 1878; H.A. April 11, 1882. C.H.
