Biography of T. J. Farmer - Pulaski Co. VA T.J. FARMER - son of George and Mary (MCDANIEL) FARMER, who were natives of Pulaski county, was born in this county in 1844. In 1866 he married Martha E. FULWIDER, who was born in Rockbridge county, Virginia, in 1846. Abraham and Maria A. (CONNERY) FULWIDER, her parents, made their home in Pulaski in the year of her marriage. Mr. and Mrs. FARMER are the parents of: Minnie L., born November 2, 1866; Etta M., March 12, 1869; Jerry L, October 11, 1876; Mary D., September 12, 1880; William R., April 19, 1882. On the 9th day of September, 1861, in Newbern, T.J. FARMER enrolled his name among the defenders of the sovereignty of Virginia within her own borders, as a member of Company F., Fifty-Fourth Virginia Infantry. The regiment to which he was attached was sent to Christiansburg, Montgomery county, thence to Wytheville, Wythe county, then over the line into Kentucky, where they shared in some heavy skirmishing, then back into Eastern Virginia, where they were engaged in a hard fight near Suffolk. Back again by way of Wytheville to Kentucky, the command shared in the campaign of the West for some time, taking part in a number of heavy engagements. In 1864 they were serving in Georgia, and at the battle of Peach Tree Creek, near Atlanta, July 20, 1864. T.J. FARMER was made prisoner. He was sent with other prisoners to Camp Douglas, Chicago, Illinois, and held there eleven months, or until the close of the war. He has now under good cultivation a farm in Newbern district, and his postoffice address is Dublin, Pulaski county, Virginia.
