Biography of Jerry Farmer, M.D. - Pulaski Co. VA

JERRY FARMER, M.D. -- born in Pulaski county, May 1, 1836, son of William
and Martha (MELTON) FARMER, is a resident physician and surgeon of Dublin.
He served the Confederacy through the war between the States, enlisting in
the spring of 1861 as a private in Company F, Fifty-Fourth Virginia
Infantry, and serving in Kentucky under Humphrey Marshall. In eighteen
months he was transferred from the infantry to the cavalry service, under
General Forrest. He was acting assistant surgeon, and was in all the
engagements of this part of the army, Cedar Creek, Chickamaugua, Winchester,
until before Richmond he was transferred to Chimberazo hospital, where he
remained until the close of the war. He first engaged in the study of
medicine with Dr. K. THOMPSON in 1858-9, then under Dr. Hugh MCGUIRE of
Winchester in 1859-60, and then took a course in the Virginia Medical
College, whence he graduated in 1863. He practice in Dublin from that time
until 1869, when he went to Bellevue (New York) Medical College, and took a
clinical course. Then he resumed practice in Dublin, and in 1877-8 added to
it a drug business. He now devotes his entire time to the duties of his
profession, in which he has a large practice. He has been six years a member
of the State Medical Society. His wife is Sarah E., a daughter of William
and Margaret (TRINKLE) BOSANG, born in Pulaski county, March 20, 1847. Dr.
and Mrs. FARMER have no children, but have adopted her nephew, Jerry
Clarence STONE, born February 25, 1876, son of M.C. STONE. Dr. FARMER'S
address is Dublin, Pulaski county, Virginia.
