Biography of Ira Duane Hall - Pulaski Co. VA IRA DUANE HALL - son of Luke and Anna (HEATH) HALL, was born in Berkshire county, Massachusetts, November 4, 1820. He left his native State in August, 1839, and went to Milton, North Carolina, as a peddler of the old "Seth Thomas" clocks, and from that State came to Virginia, June 10, 1840, and continued in the same occupation here till 1846. Since that time he has been farming, except for two years of service he gave the Confederacy during the civil war. Mr. HALL has been twice married. November 4, 1844, Elizabeth, daughter of Charles and Jane (SHANNON) KING, became his wife. She was born in Giles county, April 11, 1821, and her decease occurred July 31, 1859. The three children of Mr. HALL are the offspring of his first marriage: Charles Luke, born March 20, 1846, now a resident in St. Louis, Missouri: Ann Jane, August 4, 1848, lives in Giles county; Allen Bassett, March 25, 1850, lives with his father in Dublin district. April 17, 1861, Ira D. Hall was united in marriage with Rebecca J., daughter of Jesse and Anna (CARR) BANE. She was born in Giles county, Virginia, September 10, 1830. Mr. HALL took up his residence in this county in 1878, coming from Giles county, and he has here a valuable farm and a comfortable home. He was a member of Capt. Thomas JACKSON'S Battery, General ROSS' Brigade, with rank of fifth sergeant while in the service, and took part in the Shenandoah valley campaigns. His oldest son, Charles L., was in the same battery from March, 1863, until the close of the war. He was in the campaigns of the Shenandoah valley, in the raid of Early into Maryland, and at the burning of Chambersburg, and bears the scar of honorable service from a wound received over the right eye from a piece of shell.
