Biography of William L. Hunter - Pulaski Co. VA WILLIAM L. HUNTER-proprietor of Hunters Alum Springs, on Walkers creek, in Little Walker valley, came from Bedford county, Virginia, in 1853 to Pulaski county. He was born in Bedford county September 24, 1816, and in that county, May 10, 1853, he married Missouri A. Mooman, born in Bedford county June 8, 1828 was a son of Peter and Lucy (GOFF) HUNTER, and his wife's parents were John H. and Elizabeth (JOHNSON) Mooman. Three sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. HUNTER : Robert M. T.. March 13, 1854 ; John Walton, June 15, 1855 ; William L., March 20, 1859. John Walton died November 24, 1863, and the other two live in Dublin district. Jerome Hunter, brother of William L., was a member of the Second Virginia Cavalry, under Colonel Bedford, and served through the entire struggle for States rights. He participated in the first Manassas battle, the battles of Winchester, and many others; was never sick or off duty, always cheerful, always at his post. He entered the army as a private, and at the disbanding of the regiment was holding the commission of first lieutenant. William L. Hunter was also a soldier of the Confederacy during the last years of the war. The alum springs, of which he is proprietor, are about ten miles from Dublin, and are easily reached by conveyances from that point. In the season of 1883 his visitors numbered over three hundred, and all pronounced the springs the best remedial agent ever tried for the numerous ills flesh is heir to.
