Biography of S. W. Miller - Pulaski Co. VA S.W. MILLER--born in Pulaski county, then Montgomery county, May15, 1819, is a son of James and Hannah MILLER, also born in what was then Montgomery, now Pulaski. He watched the development of the county, and saw the prosperity it attained destroyed by the years of the war between the States, and now rejoices to have seen the place of his nativity once more enjoying peace and plenty. During that war he was a member of Company F, Fifty-Fourth Virginia Infantry, and for four years defended the soil of Virginia in the many fierce battles in which that regiment engaged. Missionary Ridge and Lookout Mountain were among the battles in which he participated, and he was through all the campaigns under JOHNSON and HOOD. At Bentonville, North Carolina, he was made prisoner and sent to Point Lookout, Maryland. Sebastian WYGAL, his grandfather, was a soldier of the Revolution under PRESTON, and served during that entire struggle as one of the ablest soldiers of the colonies. Isaac MILLER, uncle of S.W., was a young soldier of the 1812 war, and died in the service at Norfolk. S.W.MILLER is owner of a fine plantation of 325 acres of beautiful hill land on Back creek. He has never married and has living with him his niece, Mrs. Lizzie PAINTER, and her husband, Robert S. PAINTER. His postoffice address is Dublin, Pulaski county, Virginia.
