Biography of William M. Miller - Pulaski Co. VA WILLIAM M. MILLER--was a son of James and Hannah (WYGAL) MILLER, who about 1817 settled on the farm where William M. now resides, and where he was born May 29, 1821. James MILLER cleared this farm, and made valuable a large tract of land, and died at the age of forty years, leaving it to his twin sons and two daughters, William M., S.W., Ellen C., and Margaret A. In the Sketch preceding this is a further record of the ancestry of the family. In Giles county, Virginia, February 17, 1846, William M. MILLER and Mary E. SHANNON were united in marriage, and two daughters and one son were born to them: Julia Day, November 8,1848; Mary E., February 25, 1853; James S., December 3, 1865. Mary E. died April 8, 1874; the others are at home. The wife of Mr. MILLER was born in Giles county, December 26, 1824, daughter of Thomas and Julia H. (ALLEN) SHANNON, the former a native of Giles county, and the latter born in Boteourt county, Virginia. Mr. MILLER was subjected to the misfortune of having his fine residence destroyed by fire in 1881, and he not only lost his house and furniture, but many valuable records collected while he served with honor for the period of eight years as county magistrate. He has some fine limestone springs on his place, and has the water conducted to his house by the best system of conveyance that has ever been applied to such a purpose. His farm lies along Back creek, and Dublin, Pulaski county, Virginia, is his postoffice address.
