Biography of John W. Morgan - Pulaski Co. VA JOHN W. MORGAN--born in Pulaski county, October 30, 1832, was a son of Francis Asbury MORGAN and Nancy (INGRAM) MORGAN, natives of this county, and grandson of Edward MORGAN, the first Methodist minister who preached west of the New river. This Edward MORGAN came from London, England, when about sixteen years old, and died aged about ninety-five years. His grandparents, by their kindness and heroic endurance of the many privations of frontier life, endeared themselves to the pioneer settlers of this county, and their memory is still revered by the descendants of these early settlers. Edward MORGAN was frequently called upon to perform the marriage ceremony, or to minister to the afflicted mourner, from many distant points, journeying often to Bland and Fayette counties, and sometimes absent from home for weeks at a time. In Pulaski county, July 6, 1870, John W. MORGAN was united in wedlock with Sallie A. WYSONG, and their home is brightened with the presence of six children, born to them: Ellen B., October 26, 1871; Mary M., May 30, 1874; Willie D., September 8, 1876; Francis A., December 20, 1878; Jerry, December 21, 1880; Anna, April 16, 1883. The wife of Mr. MORGAN was born in Franklin county, Virginia, April 7, 1849, and came with her parents, Lonis and Ellen B. WYSONG, to Pulaski county in 1869. During the civil war, John W. MORGAN was a member of Captain DOUTHARD's Battery Early's Division, and participated in the momentous campaigns of the Shanandoah valley. He is extensively farming and grazing now, with his address at New River Bridge, Submitted by Sherry Crawford **************************************************************** USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
