Biography of Hugh Meredith - Pulaski Co. VA HUGH MEREDITH--one of the farming residents of Pulaski county, was born in Montgomery county, Virginia, in 1805, and came to this country in his youth, and helped to clear the farm he is now cultivating. It contains about 140 acres of tillable land. Hugh and Nancy (SMALLWOOD) MEREDITH were his parents, who settled in Pulaski county in 1815. In 1824 he married Katy, daughter of Robert and Keziah (FARMER) BELL. She was born in Pulaski county, and their children were born: Lucinda, 1825: Nancy, 1827; Kitty, 1829; Jane, 1831; William, 1833; John, 1835; James R., 1837; Melly, 1839; Daniel, 1841; Sarah A., 1843. Jane and Daniel are deceased, the latter taken sick and dying while in the Southern army. Three other sons of oh Hugh MEREDITH were in that army, who returned to their homes in safety, although one was severely wounded in the service. Hugh MEREDITH held a captain's commission in the State militia some years before the war. The second wife of Hugh MEREDITH was Melvinia RUPE, and their children were born: H.C., 1865; Emma S., 1866; S.E., 1868; P.C., 1870; Walker, 1872, deceased; Viola A., 1874; L.E., 1876; David, 1878, deceased. Mrs. Melvinia MEREDITH departed this life in 1878. Hugh MEREDITH's postoffice address is Snowville, Pulaski county, Virginia.
