Biography of George W. Morehead - Pulaski Co. VA GEORGE W. MOREHEAD--born in Pulaski county, Virginia, December 24, 1839, was a son of Andrew and Martha (CADDALL) MOREHEAD. His father came to what is Pulaski county in 1799, the county then forming part of Montgomery, which extended west to the Kentucky line. Andrew MOREHEAD here engaged in farming and grazing, which continued his occupation till his death in 1855. His wife died in 1841. The first wife of George W. MOREHEAD was Nannie D. JORDAN, whom he married in April, 1874, and who died on the 20th of December, 1875. In Pulaski county, July 23, 1880, he wedded Nannie C., daughter of Benjamin F. and H. Jane (JORDAN) WYSOR. One son, born July 25, 1881, named Frank Wysor , is the child of this union. The birth of Nannie C. WYSOR was in Pulaski county, July 30, 1858. At the outbreak of the civil war, George W. MOREHEAD entered the confederate service. He enlisted April 22, 1861, Company C, Pulaski Guards, Fourth Virginia Infantry, Stonewall JACKSON's Brigade, and took part in the battles of Manassas and Kernstown, mustering out April 20, 1862, on account of disability. After recuperating, he in company with Henry BOSANG, raised a company for post duty with headquarters at Dublin, serving there and at Wytheville until the close of the war. He then went to Missouri and taught until 1870, when he returned to his native county. In 1873 he was elected county treasurer for three years, but a change in the constitution vacated the office before he served out his term. He was re-elected in 1875, served a second time, received a re-election, which he is still serving. His postoffice address is Newbern, Pulaski county, Virginia.
