Biography of George T. Pratt - Pulaski Co. VA GEORGE T. PRATT-son of Madison and Elizabeth (FISHER) PRATT, who made the home of their wedded life in Pulaski county in 1836, was born in this county January 5, 1843. He was not nineteen years of age when the war between the States was inaugurated, but he entered the service of Virginia at once, enlisting April 10, 1861, Company C., Fourth Virginia Infantry "Stonewall Brigade." He enlisted at Newbern, and was sent to Richmond, thence to Harper's Ferry, then to Manassas Junction, where the first fight of the war sent Federal troops on double quick back to Washington. Mr. PRATT served under Jackson in all his engagements till Chancellorsville, were that general was killed, and in the same engagement Mr. PRATT was wounded in the left hip. He was again wounded in the foot, at Fredericksburg, December 13, 1862, and at Gettysburg, July 3,1863, he was wounded in the hand. Disabled for active service for nine months, he received discharge in 1864, and was again ready for duty in the same year. He was commissioned second lieutenant of Company C, Fourth Virginia Reserves, and while defending the salt works was again wounded in the leg. This ended his fighting days, and he wants no more of them. He is now farming in Newbern district, and his family consists of his wife Mary E., daughter of John T. and Rachel O. SAYERS, and the four children of their union: John S., born October 17, 1869, Robert M., April 23, 1871; Walter S., January 11, 1874; Bertha G., March 24, 1876. Mary E. SAYERS was born in Wythe county, Virginia, November 2, 1841, and became the wife of Mr. PRATT December 24, 1868. Abner J. SAYERS, brother of Mrs. PRATT, was one of the first to enlist in Company C, Fourth Virginia Infantry, and served in all the engagements of that regiment until the battle of Gettysburg, where he gave his life for his native State.
