Biography of Joseph S. Shelburn - Pulaski Co. VA JOSEPH S. SHELBURN-was born in Charlotte county, Virginia, in 1836, and has lived in Pulaski county, Virginia since he was fifteen years of age. He has a farm of 153 acres, which he helped to clear. In 1861 he enlisted in Montgomery county, Virginia, in Company K, Twenty-Fourth Virginia Infantry. He was a participant in the battle at Mannasas Junction, the first fight there, then at Yorktown, during its six weeks' siege, then in the battle of Williamsburg, there Mr. SHELBURN was made prisoner. He was exchanged in eight days, and went to the Twenty-Fifth Virginia Cavalry, and as one of the brave boys of that regiment served till the close of the war. They saw hard fighting in the Virginia valley, and were in the Southwestern Army when the struggle ended and the regiment disbanded. In 1864 the marriage vows of Joseph R. SHELBURN and M. J. HALEY were recorded, and they have eight children. Their oldest was J. H. born July 19, 1865, and no longer living. With them are: J. N., born January 6, 1868; Eliza W., September 3, 1869; M. G., July 21, 1871; M. F., July 30, 1873; J. T., May 20, 1875; D. M., March 30, 1877; L.L., March 18, 1879; B. R., June 11, 1881; P. F., August 30, 1883. J. T. and Eliza A. (MELTON) HALEY are the parents of Mrs. SHELBURN, and she was born in Pulaski county in 1843. Any mail for Joseph R. SHELBURN should be sent to Snowville, Pulaski county, Virginia.
