Petition for New Jail, 1842 Know all men by these presents that we, William P. Kerins, John D. Howe, John Caddall, Hiram Haney, & Philip L. Woolwine are held and firmly bound unto John McTaylor, John Hoge, James Hoge, John Calfee, Samuel Calfee, David G. Shepherd, Joseph H. Howe, David T. Martin, Henry Mysor, Jr., Asail Snow, Henry M. Bentley, George W. Baskerville, James C. Currin, John C. Cecil, Joseph Cloyd and David F. Kent, acting Justice of the Pease in the County of Pulaski and their successors in offices in the final sum of Five thousand dollars, lawfull money of Virginia, for the true payment whereof we bind ourselves, our heirs, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this 20th day of September, 1842. The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the above bound William P. Kerin hath this day entered into an agreement to build a jail for the County of Pulaski according to the plan and stipulations set forth in an article hearing date the 4th day of August, 1842 and to which the said William P. Kerin, and John McTaylor, Henry Mysor, Jr., Joseph Cloyd, David G. Shepherd and John D. Howe as commissioners for contracting for building a Jail for the County of Pulaski, have set their signatures. Now if the said William P. Kerin shall make and truly erect a Jail for the County of Pulaski according to the plan and specifications as set forth in the article aforesaid and faithfully perform all things therein required to be done, then the above obligation to be paid, otherwise to remain in full force. 1842 William P.
