Benjamin Harrison, Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia.  To 
all to whom these presents shall come, Greetings:  Know ye:  That by virtue 
of a certificate in right of settlement given by the commissioners for 
adjusting the Titles to unpatented lands in the District of Washington and 
Montgomery Counties and in consideration of the ancient composition of two 
Pounds Sterling paid by Josiah Fugate into the Treasury of this Commonwealth, 
there is Granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said Josiah Fugate, 
assignee of Neil McGluster assignee of Thomas Foster who was assignee of 
John Vardeman, a certain Tract or Parcel of land, containing four hundred 
acres, by survey bearing date the sixth day of November, one thousand seven 
hundred and eighty-two; lying and being in the County of Montgomery on the 
North side of New River, and bounded as followeth, To Wit:  Beginning at a 
White Oak by a branch South 71 degrees, West 62 poles, to two White Oaks on 
a hill side.  South 49 degrees, West 66 poles to a White Oak and White Oak 
sapling.  South 80 degrees, West 44 poles to three Spanish Oaks.  South 3 
degrees, East 120 poles to a Chestnut, Oak and Poplar.  South 50 degrees, 
East 242 poles to two White Oaks.  South 20 degrees, West 90 poles to a 
Cucumber and Hickory on the River bank thence down the several courses of 
the same 212 poles to a Walnut; thence leaving the River North 29 degrees, 
West 318 poles to the beginning.  With its' appurtenances:  To have and to 
hold the said Tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances, to the said 
Josiah Fugate and his Heirs, forever.  In

Witness whereof the said Benjamin Harrison, Esquire, Governor of the 
Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto put his hand and caused the Lesser 
seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond on the tenth day of 
July in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-four, 
and of the Commonwealth, the Ninth.
