New River, VA - Impressive funeral rites were held recently at New Methodist
Church for Mrs. Sallie Thomas Tolliver, pioneer citizen of Pulaski County, who
died Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Andrew Williams, of New
River, Va.

The Rev. G. W. Hollowell, pastor, presided.  He was assisted by the Rev. T. G.
Howard, Bristol District Superintendent, E. Tennessee Conference;  the Rev. Mr.
Manning, and the Rev. J. G. J. Nash, Bluefield District Superintendent.  A
former pastor delivered the eulogy.

Mrs. Tolliver, widow of the late R. J. Tolliver, who preceded her in death in
1932, was a native of Floyd County VA, but had resided in Pulaski County for
more than half a century.

She was the product of thrifty, hard-working, religious stock, which was
reflected later in her domestic and social life.

Survivors include:  A son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Williams of
New River;  a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Tolliver of Detroit
Mich;  eleven grandchildren including Belford Tolliver of Detroit, Jack Carter
of Bluefield WV, Mrs. Bertha Carter of Pulaski, Talmadge Williams of Radford VA,
Carl Williams and Mrs. Flora T. Calloway, both of New River.

Friends from Pulaski who attended Mrs. Tolliver’s funeral include:  Miss A. M.
Calfee,  R. J. William Mills,  Mrs. Delia M. Hunter, Mrs. Ellen C. Beverly, Mrs.
Gladys L. Watkins, Mrs. Bertha Carter, the Rev. T. G. Howard, and the Rev. and
Mrs. O. L. Johnson.
