Inventory of Joseph Clark's Estate, abstracted, 1866 - Pulaski Co. VA Inventory of Joseph Clarks's estate was held on Feb 24 1866 in Pulaski Co, Virginia, Will Book 2.pp 213-214. The estate was finally settled on 15 Feb 1875, Pulaski Co, Will Book 3, pp 163-166/he following amounts were due each of the fourteen heirs some heirs had already collected a portion of their share during the nine years wait;some had collected more then their share. 1) $1,,534.15 went to Rachael Clark Hughes, Joseph's sister. She had already collected various amounts from the estate and $175.00 was owed her at settlement. Rachael was living in Kansas, so Jefferson R Fugate acted as her agent in this matter. 2)$1,534.15 went to Reuben M Clark, Joseph's brother who was living in Smith Co Texas. Reuben's nephew, Henry C Clark acted as his agent. After deducting the amount Reuben had already received, the estate still owed him $175.72 3)$1,534.15 went to William C Elmore. It iks believed he was a descendant of Henry Clark, deceased brother of Joseph who had been living in Adair Co, IL. The estate still owed Elmore's family $479.00 4)$1,534.15 went to Randolph Clark of Pulaski Co, Va,Joseph's brother. Randolph was owed $309.23 5)$1,534,15 went to Charity Clark Nunn of Pulaski Co, Virginia,Joseph's sister. She was still owed $959.28 The next eight shares went to the sons of John Claiborne Clark, Joseph's brother. The nephews lived in Pulaski Co Va. 6)$170,50 Chester Braxton Clark-nothing still owed 7)$!70,50 Miles Bentley Clark-$7.94 still owed 8)$170,50 Benjamin Rush Clark-19.49 still owed 9)R$170.50 John Ballard Clark-27.59 still owed 10) $170.50 Henry Clay Clark-overpayment of 83.51 11) $!70.50 Reuben Montgomery Clark-overpayment $47.45 12)$170,50 Joseph Warren Clark-overppayment of $43.51 13)#170.50 Dr. Fugate Clark-overpayment $20.79 The final share went to the grandson of John Claiborne Clark, son of William R Clark, who jad died in the Civil War.This grandnephew lived in Cook Co TX. 14) $170.50 Dr. John William R. Clark-169,50 still owed. The estate papers show that Joseph's siblings, Reuben,Randolph and Charity each had $574.87 deducted from their share to pay legal fees for their participation in a lawsuit in Terxas concerning the estate of their relative John C. Clark, who had moved to Texas in 1824 and died there with no known heirs in 1861. The papers show that Joseph's nephews had $63,87 deducted for the same reason."His expenses in the Texas suit" In all $2,235.57 was paid by this family to intervene in a suit originally brought 5 Feb 1867 in Wharton Co, Texas by Mildred Ann Clark Wygal and Richard J. Clark, both of Pulaski Co, Va for the recovery of John C. Clark's large estate which had been awarded to the state of Texas Treasury.
