Atkins Cemetery Location: 6 miles from Washington, Virginia, on Route #211. Rappahannock Co., Virginia DATE: 1829, date of the oldest grave. OWNERS: James C. Cropp, present owner. (1936) DESCRIPTION: A private burying ground, it is enclosed by a stone wall. The cemetery has been well cared for and in it is a beautiful holly tree and much shrubbery. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The following inscriptions were copied from the tombstones: Fannie L. Corder Born Feb. 3, 1831 Died July 8, 1860 Our Father Elijah Corder Born June 23, 1806 Died May 15, 1829 Sacred to the Memory of Jenima J. Consort of Franklin Pierce Who Departed this Life March 11th, 1853 aged 49 years and 14 days The Ransomed of the Lord Shall return and come to Zion with songs and everlasting Joy upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
