OWNERS: E. M. Green, Washington, Virginia. DESCRIPTION: This graveyard is on the top of a high hill at the back of the old Green home, “The Shades”. It is well kept and enclosed by a stone fence. Some of the graves have no markers. The following inscriptions were copied from tombstones: In memory of Bettie Lane Daughter of Monroe & Elvira Kelly Born Dec’r 25, 1847 Died June 25, 1850 In memory of William A. Lane Died 12th Sep’r 1842 In the 69th year of his age In Memory of James Green Jr. Died Novr. 3rd 1832 Aged 42 years Blessed Are the Merciful For they Shall Obtain Mercy. God Moves in a Mysterious Way; His Wonders To Perform; He Plants His Footsteps In The Sea And Rides Upon The Storm He In the Thickest Darkness Dwells Performs His Methods Are Unknown; Judgement and Truth Support His Throne.
