Atkins Cemetery Location: From Amissville, Virginia, go 2 miles on Route #211 Rappahannock Co., Virginia DATE: Not given. OWNERS: E. T. Major, present owner. (1936) DESCRIPTION: A private cemetery, it is located on the left side of the road, is enclosed with a stone wall and has quite a few locust trees within its bounds. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The following inscriptions were found in the Major Cemetery: A large tombstone with this inscription: Peace Perfect Major Family Winfield Scott Son of William & E. T. Major Born 24th day Feb. 1816 Died 22 day of Aug. 1858 Aged 42 yrs. 5 months & 28 days Frances Wife of John Cobin Died May 1, 1814 Father of Elizabeth T. Major Died June 16, 1813 in the 66 year of his age Mary daughter of William & E. T. Major Died Aug. 27, 1836 Samuel son of William & E. T. Major Died Feb. 28, 1852 in the 41 year of his age Henry Clay son of J. E. and T. C. Jameson Died June 10, 1843 Our Darling Affection Consecrates this spot to Elizabeth Frances the devoted wife of John James Pater and only daughter of John & Elizabeth Jameson of Culpeper C.H.
