BROWN, PAUL W., CEMETERY Located off Route 231, out a county road that was actually unmarked, but on our map identified as Route 662, and which leads back into a hollow identified on our map as “Jenkins Hollow.” There are some old houses that are broken down and destroyed in the area and the cemetery is located approximately ¼ mile southwest of 1 house that’s in the valley. CEMETERY, NAME UNKNOWN Located approximately 100 yards north of Wigington Cemetery, at the top of the ridge, about 50 yards south of the county road. Approximately 13-15 unidentifiable graves. 2 or 3 are marked with fieldstone, but the cemetery is covered with brush and fallen trees. PARTLOW CEMETERY Located just north of County Road 608 and just west of State Route 231. Follow the first creek bed that goes off to the right (from C.R. 608) for approximately 200 yards. On top of a hill is what remains of a cemetery: a broken-down fence, completely covered with brush. We were able to locate one stone, which we literally dug out of the ground: Partlow, Clarence B. Died Apr. 21, 1913, aged 25 years. May he rest in peace. CEMETERY, NAME UNKNOWN Located east of County Road 600 on the northeastern side of an orchard and was very difficult to locate. It is extremely unkempt with brambles and rocks everywhere. At least 25 gravesites that we counted are marked with fieldstone, and there are likely many more. One of the stones had this inscription scratched into it: Maw, Mar. 27 (?), 1856. HAWKINS/BURKE/WOODWARD/ROBERTSON CEMETERY Located just south of County Road 622, about ½ mile east of its junction with County Road 621. The cemetery is located about ¼ mile out this road to the right. An old road bed borders the cemetery, which contains several unmarked graves and several marked only with fieldstone. COUGLIN CEMETERY Located on County Road 607, about 2 ½ miles north of its intersection with County Road 707. We were told this location would be known as the “Bobby Weaver place.” It is about ½ mile north of County Road 621, way back in the woods on the south side of Slaughter Mountain. At Rest. BOTTS/McMARTIN/STARK CEMETERY Located east of County Road 607 and is on top of a beautiful hill on the Eldon Farm where the main house sits. CEMETERY, NAME UNKNOWN Located in the Hawlin area, on a hillside south of County Road 618, on the north side of Schoolhouse Mountain. An old road bed borders this spot on the west side of the cemetery. There are several graves marked with field stones. KIBLER/CLARK/HITT CEMETERY Located on County Road 621 about ½ mile north of State Route 522. The cemetery is on the east side of County Road 621, on top of a little knoll overlooking the valley. CEMETERY, NAME UNKNOWN Located in an open field that is immediately south of County Road 626, about ½ mile east of State Route 522. We found 18 uninscribed fieldstone markers there. GARNER, MARY A., CEMETERY Located just east of County Road 616, on the north side of a driveway that leads back to a home. There are actually 2 different plots of ground that are encircled by wrought iron fences. Garner, Mary A. Oct. 16, 1816-Aug. 11, 1890. At Rest. 3 additional graves marked with fieldstones. CEMETERY, NAME UNKNOWN Located approximately 30-40 yards east of the Mary Garner Cemetery. This cemetery is surrounded by a wrought iron fence. Approximately 7-8 graves marked with fieldstones. VAUGHAN, SILAS, CEMETERY Located on County Road 615, approximately 1 ¼ mile southwest of Estes. Vaughan, Silas. Aug. 3, 1836-Apr. 4, 1921. Several additional graves marked with fieldstones. CEMETERY, NAME UNKNOWN Located on the western slope of Castleton Mountain, on a private road which leads off of County Road 617. Contains several gravesites which are covered with rocks. No inscriptions were found. FANT/DEATHERAGE CEMETERY Located on a private road which turns east off of County Road 618 about ¼ mile west of Laurel Mills. We were told that this farm is known as the “Betty Monroe Farm.” The cemetery is located in a pasture behind a barn just east of an old farmhouse. It is surrounded by a concrete wall with wrought iron spiking at the top. There is no gate in the wall, and the entire enclosure was completely filled with brush and brambles.
