Atkins Cemetery Location: 3 miles south of Flint Hill, Virginia, on Route #3. Rappahannock Co., Virginia DATE: 1844 or before. OWNERS: George Settle, present owner. (1936) DESCRIPTION: A private cemetery, it is located on a hill not far from the house; enclosed by a stone wall, it has been nicely cared for. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The following inscriptions were copied from the tombstones: Edwin H. Settle Born July 18, 1853 Died July 23, 1853 Thos. J. Settle Born Feb’y 21, 1851 Died July 22, 1852 In Memory of My Mother Rachel Settle Died Nov. 19, 1846 Aged 73 years In Memory of My Father Joseph Settle Died March 20th, 1844 Aged 64 yrs. 6 mos. & 18 days Tis Fathers Grave Well may His Memory live a charm to this loved Spot His name doth give Long Will posterity his virtues own When blank or broken is this pillard stone.
