Atkins Cemetery Location: One mile north of Sperryville, Virginia, on Route #3 Rappahannock Co., Virginia DATE: 1843, date of the oldest grave. OWNERS: Dr. C. E. Johnson, present owner. (1936) DESCRIPTION: A private family burying ground, located north of the home. It is enclosed by a wire fence and it has been well cared for. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The following inscriptions were copied from the tombstones: In Memory of Francis Miller who departed this life April 30th, 1865 In the 66thj year of his age Father John H. Wood Born Sept. 2, 1792 Died Aug. 14, 1843 In Memory of Wm. Edward son of M. & S.J. Cooper Born July 15, 1849 Died Oct. 26, 1850 Ann G. Miller Born Oct. 8, 1827 Died Feby. 20th, 1845 In Parturition of her Worth and Virtue This Stone is Affectionately Erected By her Husband who with a fond Mother is left to Mourn Over Their Inexpressible loss.
