Garner Cemetery Location: 1 mile northwest of Richmond, Virginia, on Forest Lawn Cemetery Road, 75 yards north of the road. Richmond Co., Virginia DATE: 1823 is the earliest date of burial on any of the stones. OWNERS: This plot has been owned by the Carter family for over one hundred years. (1937) DESCRIPTION: There are eight graves in this graveyard, all under perpetual care. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: The tombstones are inscribed as follows: In memory of William Adolph Carter Born Dec. 18, 1819 Died Feb’y 2, 1855 Sleep on Brother dear, enjoy our rest God called you home, he thought it best Though hard indeed to part with thee But Christ’s strong arm supported me. In memory of Abraham Douglas Carter Born Dec. 12, 1811 Died March 18, 1855 In memory of Mary Martha Carter Born May 24, 1815 Died July 6, 1859 In memory of John Carter Born June 6, 1773 Died Oct. 13, 1855 In memory of Samuel S. Carter Born Nov. 27, 1789 Died April 13, 1852 Annie N. Carter Consort of Samuel H. Carter Born Dec. 29, 1785 Died Jan. 30, 1870 In memory of L. Elizabeth The wife of W. Joseph Kimbrough Who was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania on the 29th, day of March 1792 and departed this life in the City of Richmond Sept. 28, 1823 In the 32 year of her life.
