This indenture made the thirty first day of December in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty and in the year of the Commonwealth of Virginia between Walter Jones and Alice his wife of the County of Northumberland and Parish of St. Stephens, gentleman of the one part and Peter Northern of the County of Richmond, Planter of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Walter Jones and Alice his wife for and in consideration of the sum of six thousand pounds of good merchantable crop tobacco in cashe and clear of charges to them in hand paid at or before the ensealing and delivery hereof the receipt whereof the said Walter Jones and Alice his wife do hereby acknowledge and thereof doth exonerate, acquit and discharge the said Peter Northern, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns forever. Hath given, granted, bargained, sold and confirm unto the said Peter Northern, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns forever, all that tract or parcel of land containing eighty six acres lying and being in the said County of Richmond on the Main Road that leads from the Courthouse to Totuskey bridge being the land the said Walter Jones purchased of William Thrift by deed of indenture bearing date the second day of June in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy seven, relation being had will more and fully and at large appear. Beginning at a white oak on the road side running thence N.75-1/4 W 46 Pole, to N6 E 13 Pole, to Barricks line N46-1/2 E46 Pole, to the main road from the Courthouse and down the turnings thereof to a stake in the forks of the roads and down Branham Mill Road S59 E27 Pole, to a white oak S85 E4 Pole, a hickory S86, a red oak N83 E15 Pole, a white oak N77 E 16 Pole, a white oak _________ Richard Shackelford S45-1/2 W23-1/2 Pole, a Spanish oak S27 E26 Pole, a white oak S75 W29 Pole, stake S87 W14 Pole, a red oak S3 E16 Pole, a hickory S6, E75 Pole, a Seedar N83 W44- 1/2Pole, a white oak on the east side of the Main Road thence keeping the same N28 W15 Pole. Beginning the said eighty-sex acres of land with all its rights, members and appurtenances together with any houses, fences, woods, orchards, water and water courses and hereditaments whatsoever to the said land and premises or any part thereof belonging or in any way appertaining and also all the estate right and the interest, use, trust, possession and property claim and demand whatsoever of them the said Walter Jones and Alice his wife. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of eighty-six acres of land as aforesaid and all the right, title, claims and demands whatsoever of them the said Walter Jones and Alice his wife which now have or shall or may have of, in or to the premises or any part thereof and the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders, rents and profits thereof and of every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances mentioned and intended to be hereby bargained and sold unto the said Peter Northern, his heirs and assigns forever to his and their proper, wise and behoof forever and their the said Walter Jones and Alice his wife, their heirs, executors, administrators shall for ever warrant and defend to the said Peter Northern, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns the said hereby bargained premises against the claim or demand of any person or persons whatsoever and the said Walter Jones and Alice his wife shall and will hereinafter at the request of the said Peter Northern, his heirs, executors, administrators and assigns make, do and execute any other lawful act or acts, conveyances or assurances in the law for the more sure making and confirming of the said premises to the said Peter Northern, his heirs or assigns as by him or them or his or their council learned in the law shall be devised, advised or required.
