Northen and Edward J. & Catharine M. Northen to Peter S. Northen November 21, 1835 Note: Catherine M. Northen and William S. Northen were the children of James Northen and Catherine Gwinn Smith. Edward J. Northen Jr. married Catherine M. Northen on December 7, 1832. Catherine married her cousin, Edward J. Northen, Jr., who was the son of Edward Jones Northen and Sarah Dobyns. Peter Smith Northen stood surety for Edward J. Northen's marriage bond. William S. Northen married Sarah A. Davis on December 20, 1832. This indenture made the 21st day of November in the year eighteen hundred and thirty-five between William S. Northen and Sarah A. Northen his wife and Edward J. Northen and Catherine M. Northen his wife of the one part and Peter S. Northen of the other part. Witnesseth that the said William S. Northen and Sarah A. his wife, Edward J. Northen and Catherine M. his wife for and inconsideration of the sum of sixty dollars lawful money of the Commonwealth to them in hand paid by the said Peter S. Northen at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold and by these presents do bargain and sell unto the said Peter S. Northen, his heirs and assigns all their right, title and interest being to each an undivided fourth part, the said Peter S. Northen owning another fourth part of a certain tract or parcel of land lying in North Farnham Parish and known by the name of Mars Hill, which tract or parcel of land containing by estimation eighty-five acres be the same more or less and bounded by the lands of William Saunders, Richard Efford, deceased, Richard Shackleford, deceased and Catherine Lyell, with all and singular the appurtenances and thereunto belonging and of every part and parcel thereof and the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders, yearly and other rents, fees and profits thereof and of every part and parcel thereof to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with the tenements, hereditaments and all and singular other the premises herein before mentioned or intended to be bargained and sold and every part and parcel thereof with every of their rights, members and appurtenances unto the said Peter S. Northen, his heirs and assigns forever and the said William S. Northen and Sarah A. his wife, Edward J. Northen and Catherine M. his wife or themselves and their heirs the said tract or parcel land with all and singular the premises and appurtenances before mentioned unto the said Peter S. Northen, his heirs and assigns free from the claim, claims or the said William S. Northen and Sarah A. his wife, Edward J. Northen and Catherine M. his wife or either of their heirs and of all and very person and persons whatsoever shall, will and do covenant and forever defend by these presents.
