Smith, John                 Pen. 392             1789-1809  
Soldier-7th Virginia Regiment 

I do with advice of the Council hereby certify that John Smith aged about 40 
years, late a private in the 7th Virginia Regiment and whose pay was at the rate 
of 24 pounds per annum was wounded while in the service of the United States by 
a musket ball which passed through his thigh or hip and disabled him and that he 
is allowed the sum of 12 pounds yearly; which allowance is accordingly made him 
to commence on the first day of January 1786.  Given under my hand as 
Lt.Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, at Richmond,/ the Governor being 
absent/ this __ day of June 1787.
