Will of Elizabeth Demeritt, c1805 - Richmond Co. VA Will Book 9, 1794 - 1822 (Indexed) Library of Virginia Microfilm Reel 25 Page 262 In the name of God amen. I Elizabeth Demeritt of the county of Richmond and state of Virginia, being low and weak of body but of sound sence and disposing memory, do for the purpose of disposing of such property as it hath pleased God to bless me with, hereby declare this writing to be my last will and testament as followeth ~ First I give and bequeath to my beloved sister Mary White all my right title and interest to and in that undivided tract of land containing by estimation one hundred and fifty Acres more or less, lying in Lunenburg parish and which fell to me by the Death of my Father John Demeritt. I also give to my aforesaid sister Mary White the sum of twenty pounds to her and her heirs forever ~ I give and bequeath to my beloved sister Ellen Hutt the sum of two pounds as a mark of my affection ~ I give and bequeath to my friend and brother in Law David Dungan, my negroe Girl Sylvia, he paying to my sisters Mary White the above said sum of Twenty pounds and to Ellen Hutt the abovesaid sum of Two pounds, to him and his heirs forever ~ The before mentioned bequest of the said Negroe Girl Sylvia to the aforesaid Dungan is to be taken by him as full compensation for all Debts and Demands whatsoever he may now or hereafter have against me. I give and bequeath to my loving Mother such of my wearing apparel & bed and furniture as she may think proper to take and the rest to be equally divided between my three sisters, Mary White, Nancy Dungan, and Ellen Hutt ~ I desire that after what trifling debts which I may owe and my funeral expences shall be paid, that the residue of my Estate, except a seal skin Trunk now at Doctr. David Dungans, and which I give to my Niece Elizabeth [*ilbert] Dungan, shall go to my other niece Nancy Bramham Dungan. And lastly, I do hereby appoint my friend and aforesaid brother in law David Dungan my whole & sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament as witness my hand and seal this 26th day of June 1805 [1806?]. Bramham At a Court held for Richmond County the 7th day of October [1805/6?] ~ This last will and Testament of Elizabeth Demeritt decd. was presented in Court by David Dungan the Executor named in the said will, and being proved by the oaths of Alice Demeritt and Vincent Bramham, two of the witnesses to the same subscribed, was admitted to record, and on the motion of the said David Dungan, who made oath thereto, and together with Peter Northen and Peter [?] Garland his securities entered into and acknowledged his bond in the penalty of one thousand dollars, conditioned as the law directs. Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probat of the said will in due form ~ Teste, Geo.
