Richmond County, Virginia Will Book 10, 1822 - 1846 Library of Virginia Microfilm Reel 26 Page 101 In the Name of God Amen I Christopher Pridham of Richmond County, being in perfect Health and sound memory thanks be to God, for the same, but calling to mind the mortallity of man, and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following . ~ First I recommend my Soul to God who gave it, and my body to the earth from whence it Came, to be Buryed in a decent manner at the descression of my executors hereafter named, and as it hath pleased God that I should be possesed with a portion of this worldly goods, I Give and dispose of them in manner as follows, Viz. Item, It is my will and desire that my Daughter Caty Pridham have the use of my land, that lies in Northumberland County during her natural life, also I give to my Daughter Caty Pridham one negroe Girl Lucy and her future increase to her and her Lawful heirs of her body, But for want of Such heirs, it is my will and desire, that William Rust Pridham Proctor shall have said negroe and her Increase. ~ Item, For the love and affection that have for John Middleton Pridham Proctor, believing him to be my Son, I give unto him part of that tract of Land that lies in Westmoreland County, begining at a marked Hickory stand near the watteling, then to a marked chestnut, then a long a strait line to the road, with all the Houses that Stands thereon, being the land that Joines the land belonging to Saml Cralle & the land I hold in Northd County, also it is my will and desire that he Shall have the following, (Viz) Bill Winney and three Children, one feather Bed & furniture, Beast & Saddle, one of my Guns which I Give to him & his heirs of his body Lawfully begotton of his body, But for want of Such heirs or either Selling or offering sale either said land or negroes; It is my desire that William Rust Pridham Proctor shall have the above mentioned Land and Negroes, it also Will and desire that the land I left to my Daughter, Caty Pridham shall decend to him the said, John Middleton Pridham Proctor at her death. ~ Item, I Give and bequeath unto William Rust Pridham Proctor all the land I hold in Richmond County, and also the land in Westmoreland County that is not before given, also the following Negroes Viz) Tom Rachel & two children Phillis & Lee, Betsy & two Children, Viz, Hariot & George one feather Bed & furniture, one Horse Bridle & Saddle which I give unto him and his heirs of his body, but for want of such heirs, it is my will & desire that John Middleton Pridham Proctor shall have the said land & Negroes &c Item, I for the services rendered I Give unto Elizabeth Proctor one feather Bed and furniture Loom & Gerr. ~ It is my will that Elizabeth Proctor shall be comfortable maintaind out of my estate so long as she behaves herself and Continues to Live with and take care of William Rust Pridham Proctor; but on failour of ether, it is my will and desire that William Rust Pridham Proctor shall have what was devised to her. ~ Item, It is my will and Desire that after my Just debts are paid that all my estate shall Continue as it is untill William Rust Pridham Proctor arrives to the age of Eighteen years, then it is my will that all my estate not before mentioned shall be equally divided between John Middleton Pridham Proctor, and William Rust Pridham Proctor. ~ Lastly, I nominate Elizabeth Proctor and John Middleton Pridham Proctor Executrix and Executor to this my last will & Testament Denying all others heretofore by me made. ~ In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand & Seal this 11th Day of January 1822. ~ Signed sealed and acknowledged, Christopher Pridham in presence of. ~ ~ ~ ~ Saml Cralle Interlined before Signed John (his X mark) Proctor Abraham Proctor Virginia At a Court of monthly Sessions holden for Richmond County at the Court House thereof, on Monday the 5th day of December 1825 and in the 50 year of the Commonwealth. ~ This Writing Purporting to be the last will and testament of Christopher Pridham decd was presented in Court for proof, and for reasons appearing to the Court, the said Will was ordered to lie until the next Court to be Contested, and at a Court of Monthly Sessions holden for the said County, at the Court House thereof on Monday the 2nd Day of January following 1826, The writing aforesaid purporting to be the last will and testament of Christopher Pridham decd which was ordered to lie at the last court, to be contested, was this day Brought on to be heared, and the said will being proved by the oaths of the subscribing witness thereto, was admitted to record. ~ Teste, Geo Saunders CRC [Written in the margin of the document] Septeme 1829 Eliz & Jno M P Proctor the Executors herein named having relinquished their right to qualification - - Admon with the will annexed granted Jno [illegible] - - oath admd and secy given Submitted by Patricia Tanner **************************************************************** USGENWEB NOTICE: These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by any other organization or persons.
