Will of Thomas Tarpley, 1814 - Richmond Co. VA Will Book 9, 1794 - 1822 (Indexed) Library of Virginia Microfilm Reel 25 Page 491 In the name of God Amen. I Thomas Tarpley of the County of Richmond and parish of Northfarnham being at present of sound mind and memory, blessed be God, though much indisposed in health, do make, constitute, and appoint this my last Will and Testament, revoking all former Wills whatever by me made. I commend my soul to God who gave it and desire that my body may be interred with as little ceremony as possible near those of my dear departed children and their mother. 1st. I give and bequeath to my Son Thomas Griffen Peachey Tarpley my silver Tankard, three silver teaspoons, my gold buttons, and the bed he now lies on with a country made ticking, bedstead, pair of blankets, pair of [sheets?] and a counterpain. 2nd. I give and bequeath to my son William Henry Tarpley the Bed on which I lie, pair of Blankets, bedstead, pair of Sheets, and a Counterpain, three silver Teaspoons, two table ditto, my silver ladle, and my gold breast buckle. 3rd. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Charlotte Phillipina a [bed?] bedstead, a pair of Blankets, pair of sheets, and a Counterpain, four silver table spoons, three ditto tea spoons. 4th. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Frances Ann a new striped country Ticking bed with a low maple bedstead, a pair of Blankets, a pair of sheets, a patched work quilt bolster and pillows, two silver table spoons, and two silver teaspoons. 5thly. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Catharine A. M. Hall three silver teaspoons. 6thly. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Eliza Hatch three silver tea spoons. 7thly. It is my Will and desire that my plantation be sold by my executors in such way or manner as they may judge most conducive to the interest of my children and the proceeds of the sale thereof I give and bequeath to my dear children Thomas G. P., William H., Eliza, Charlotte P., and Frances Ann, each an equal part and I do hereby empower my executors to make to the purchaser of my said plantation a legal conveyance of the same. 8th. My negroe woman Phebe I give to my two daughters, Charlotte P. and Frances Ann. 9th. My desk, black horse, saddle and bridle I give to my son Thomas G. P. 10th. My case of razors, violin, bow, and case, and Sorrel Filly I give to my son William H. 11thly. I desire that my executors may collect as soon as possible the debts due to me and pay my Just Debts, after which I desire that the residue of my estate may be equally Divided between my sons Thomas and Henry and my daughters Charlotte and Frances. Lastly, I nominate, constitute, and appoint my friend Bartho. McCarty and my son Thomas G. P. Tarpley my executors of this my last Will and Testament. in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 5th day of November one thousand and eight hundred and fourteen. This last Will and Testament of Thomas Tarpley decd. was presented in Court by Thomas G. P. Tarpley, one of the executors therein named and being proved by the oath of Augustine Neale and Meredith Hudson, two of the Witnesses to the same subscribed, was admitted to record, the codicil annexed was proved by the said Augustine Neale, one of the witnesses thereto and also admitted to record, and on the motion of the said Thomas G. P. Tarpley, who took the oath prescribed by law and with John Plummer and Joseph [Dale?], his securities, entered into and acknowledged a Bond in the penalty of Thirteen hundred Dollars Conditioned as the law directs, a certificate is granted him for obtaining a Probat thereof in due form - Teste, Geo.
