        We the underwritten Subscribers taking into consideration the present de-
fenceless situation of the City and our total inability to provide against
accidents by Fire unless Order and Discipline be introduced among the
citizens, do hereby associate ourselves under and Act of Assembly into a
Company to be known and called by the name of THE FELLOWSHIP FIRE COMPANY of
RICHMOND. and hereby agree to abide by and perform all such Rules and
Regulations as shall be enacted and agreed to by a majority of the Company.
Witness our hands this Ninth day of January one thousand seven hundred and
eighty eight

  At a Court of Hustings for the City of Richmond at the Courthouse on Monday
the 28th of January 1788.  This Instrument of Writing composing the
'FELLOWSHIP FIRE COMPANY of RICHMOND" was exhibited into Court by THOMAS P.
JOHNSON, one of the Subscribers thereto, acknowledged by said JOHNSON and
proved by his Affirmation as to the rest of the Subscribers except JOHN KER
and JOHN HICKS which is ordered to be recorded
