RICHMOND, VA - COURT - John Pleasants, Emancipation of slave Jacob, 1 Jan 1806 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- I, John Pleasants of the City of Richmond being fully persuaded that freedom is the natural right of mankind and that it is my duty to do unto others as I would desire to be done by in the like situation and being possessed of a negro man slave named Jacob, thirty four or five years old, I hereby emancipate and declare him, the said Jacob free to take place on the 25th day of December one thousand eight hundred and eight, and I do for myself, my heirs, Executors and Administration, relinquish all my right, title and claim or pretence of claim, whatsoever, as a slave to the person or to any estate the said Jacob may acquire after the said 25th day of December one thousand eight hundred and eight when he is to enjoy the full benefit of freedom in as full benefit of freedom in as full and ample manner as if he had been born free, without any interruption from me, or any other person/persons claiming for, by, from, or under me.
