RICHMOND, VA - COURT - William Richardson, Emancipation of slave John Kennedy, 16 Apr 1806 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I William Richardson of the City of Richmond having at this time in my possession a negro boy named John als John Kennedy who was born aboaut 28 July 1788 whose services and uncommon attachment ot me and willingness at all times to please merit a grateful return and having always intended that after my death he should be free, but the law passed at the last session of assembly relative to slaves haviang made it necessary that he should be so before the first of May ensuing in order that he may enjoy the blessing of freedom within his native state have and by these presents do emancipate and forever set free, the said John Kennedy free from me, my heirs, Executors and Administrators and all other persons whatsoever declaring the said John as much a free man as if he had never been born in bondage. IN WITNESS whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 16th April 1806.
