RICHMOND, VA - COURT - Peter Smith, Emancipation of slave Perry Smith, Nov 1804 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Court Records: Peter Smith, City of Richmond, VA (1804) I Peter Smith of the City of Richmond, being fully persuaded that freedom is the natural right of all mankind and that it is my duty to do to others as I would desire to be done by in the like situation and having under my care a negro man slave named Perry Smith do hereby emancipate and declare him, the said Perry Smith free from, and after the sale hereof and I do for myself, my heirs, executors and administrators, relinquish my right title claim or pretentions of claim whatsoever as a slave to the said Perry, or to any estate he may acquire hereafter and he and his pastarily? are to enjoy the full benefit of freedom in as full and ample a manner as if they had been born free, without any interruption from me or any person or persons claiming for, by, from or under me.
