RICHMOND, VA - WILLS AND ESTATES - Gersham Patton, 10 Oct 1800 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Gersham Patton of the City of Richmond being much afflicted in body but yet of perfect sound mind and memory do make, ordain, publish, pronounce and declare this instrument to be my true last will and testament, viz: First, I desire that my body be enterred in decent and frugal manner according to the direction of my Executor herein after mentioned. Secondly, as to all my just debts, I will and desire that they be paid as soon as may be without distressing my wife and child. And first of all I will and desire that the debt due my friend James Dawe be first paid and satisfied and here I declare that the debt of Col. John Mayo and for which I am now in the bounds is not a just debt although he hath obtained a judgment at law. Thirdly, all the rest and residue of my estate of every nature and kind whichsoever I give and bequeath to my aforesaid friend James Dawe in trust for the use, maintenance and supoport of my loving wife Ann Patton, the management of which I desire may devolve on my aforesaid friend on trust for her emolument and to be paid to her from time to time as she may require the same for her support and maintenance and that of my child: trusting that my said wife and trustee will on order and emitual? the funds which may remain after the payment of my just debts as to provide me the best manner possible for the education of my aforesaid child John Patton. And lastly, I do hereby appoint my aforesaid friend James Dawe whole and sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament revoking and disannulloing all Wills thereof made by me and declaring this to be my only true Will and Testament.
