Sponaugle Cemetery Location: 3 miles southeast of Roanoke, Virginia, near the old Hollins Road, rather the Fincastle Road, on the east side of Tinker Creek. Roanoke Co., Virginia DATE: 1795, date of oldest grave. OWNERS: Frank W. Read. (1936) DESCRIPTION: Part of it is enclosed by a stone wall, twelve by twenty feet and four feet high and sixteen inches in thickness. The other part is enclosed by an iron fence and has a concrete flooring twelve inches thick. Thirty six by nine yards. It is private and in good condition. The markers within the stone wall are as follows: William Flemming 1729 – 1795 Surgeon, Soldier, Patriot and his wife Nancy Christian Flemming Erected by The Nancy Christian Flemming Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution 1925 Those within the iron fence: Sacred to the Memory of Emma C.
