Weaver Cemetery Location: 1 mile southeast of Salem, Virginia Roanoke Co., Virginia DATE: 1835, date of oldest grave. OWNERS: (Blank) DESCRIPTION: This is a private cemetery. It is without a fence and is not well kept. (1937) HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: Nathaniel Burwell was a man of means. His will of January 28, 1862 makes mention of 1000 acres near Salem, 18000 acres north of Salem and 15000 acres in Floyd, Carroll and Patrick Counties. To Dr. Carter Berkley he devises $24,000 in trust for his wife, Lucy (Carter). He was a member of the House of Delegates from 1842-1843. He was the son of Nathaniel and Martha Burwell of King William County, and married Lucy Carter. Lucy (Carter) Burwell was the aunt of General Lee. Andrew Lewis was buried near here in 1781 Inscriptions: Nathaniel Burwell Died July 21, 1966 Aged 81 yrs.
