ROANOKE COUNTY, VA - CEMETERIES – Ruddle Cemetery ----¤¤¤---- Source: Library of Virginia Digital Collection LVA Titled Files: Survey Report, The Ruddle Grave yard: 1936 Nov. 13 Research made by William Clay Sponaugle Cemetery Location: 1 mile east of Vinton, Virginia, near the Bush and Ruddle Road #651, about one half mile north side on hill, and northeast of the Ruddle Home. Roanoke Co., Virginia DATE: 1776, earliest date of grave. OWNERS: Catherine Ruddle Sublett. (1936) DESCRIPTION: It is a private graveyard owned by Catherine Ruddle Sublett, a descendant of the early Ruddle settlers. It is in a deplorable condition (1936). No one is able to take care of it on account of financial as well as physical handicaps. HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE: On two tablets I found only the following dates: 1776, 1777, 1779, 1779 Then there is the following inscription on another stone: In Memory of Sarah Wife of Richard Routt Departed this life November 15, 1849 Aged 62 years, 2 months The Routts were distant cousins to the Ruddles. There are many other graves but nothing to indicate who they were or what they have been. The Ruddle family was of German and English ancestry.
