Article on Reunion of Confederate Veterans, c1902 - Roanoke Co. VA Reunion Confederate Veterans "The annuan reunion of Confederate Veterans of Virginia is now being held in Roanoke. Yesterday was the first day and while the weather was very propitious, the attandance was fairly good and the enthusiasm up to the standard. Hupp-Duyerle Camp in command of Mr. G.W. Zickle went down in a body this morning, as did the Salem chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy. Among the distinguished members of Hupp-Deyerle Camp is our own Mifflin Ballard, who did service during the war as a member of the Salem Flying Artillery, which company was at Appomattox, and history says that M.J. Ballard rammed down the ball which constituted the last shot fired on that historic battlefield."
