Roanoke Times, The (VA) - January 1, 2001 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Deceased Name: OBIT - HOGAN, ELMER BUFORD HOGAN, Elmer Buford, 93, of Roanoke, went to be with his Lord from Berkshire Health Care Center, Friday night, December 29, 2000. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha McGhee Hogan, and was the only child of the late George Robert and Cora Swain Hogan. He was retired from the American Bridge Company-U.S. Steel, and a member of Waverly Place Baptist Church. He is survived by a son, George E. Hogan and wife Dorothy, daughters Shirley Robertson and husband James, all of Roanoke, Ocelia Pollard and husband Hildrey of Vinton; ten grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren. His mother died when he was an infant, and he was reared by an aunt and uncle, the late Goldie Swain Sink and husband Tom. Surviving from this family are "brothers" Wallace, Eldridge and Clifton "Billy" Sink, and also a "sister" Mary Sink Witt. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 10:00 am Tuesday, January 2, 2001, with the Reverend Reed A. Ness officiating. Burial will be in Fair View Cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to Waverly Place Baptist Church. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday.
