Death Section of old Bible

Elizabeth J. Conner departed this life October the 11 in 1869 in the 49 year of her life.

     [Transcriber's note:  Elizabeth (Norcross) Conner was the first wife of James Conner and the mother of Mary Catherine (Conner) Reed.  Mary Catherine Conner married Samuel Newton Reed in Rockbridge Co. on August 8, 1867. Samuel Newton Reed was the son of William Reed and Mary (Reid) Reed.  Samuel was born Aug. 13,1847 in Rockbridge Co. Elizabeth (Norcross) Conner was the daughter of William and Mary (Johnston) Norcross of Rockbridge Co., Va. and earlier Burlington Co., N.J.  (See James And Elizabeth Conner Family Bible Records for additional family information.]


James Conner departed this life December 25th 1872.

     [Transcriber's note:  James Conner was the son of John Conner. His mother's name is not known.  He was first married to Elizabeth Norcross in 1844 and after Elizabeth died in 1869 he was 2"~ married to Susan McLane in 1870. Both of these marriages took place in Rockbridge Co.  James was the father of Mary Catherine (Conner) Reed, the wife of Samuel Newton Reed.]


Willie A. Reed departed this life November the 28,1876.

     [Transcriber's note:  Willie A. Reed was the infant son of Samuel Newton Reed and his wife Mary Catherine (Conner) Reed. Willie was two months old when he died.]


William Reed departed this life Aug 6,1883.

     [Transcriber's note:  William Reed was the father of Samuel Newton Reed. William Reed was born in Rockbridge Co. Va. in 1822 and was the son of Emmanuel Reed and Catherine (Dice) Reed. There seems to be some confusion as to the exact date of his death. One record states that he died on May 6,1883 and this Bible record states that he died on August 6,1883. Regardless of his death date, his death was caused by internal injuries suffered from a fall from a wagon.  Because of his great size and weight he suffered severe internal injuries which resulted in his death.  Photographs of William document his great size and weight. He was much over six feet tall and weighed well in excess of 300 pounds.]


Mary Reed departed this life July the 15,1889.

     [Transcriber's note:  Mary Reed was the mother of Samuel Newton Reed.        Mary Reed was born in Rockbridge Co.in 1819 and was the son of Benjamin Reid and
 Elizabeth (Hall or Hull) Reid. Some people state that her name was Hall but their marriage bond indicates that her name was Hull.  It stated that she was the daughter of Philip Hull.]


Mary A. Bomer departed this life September the 9 1903.

     [Transcriber's note:  Mary Bomer was a daughter of Samuel Newton and Mary Catherine (Conner) Reed. Mary Bomer died during childbirth.]


Samuel N. Reed departed this life May the 18 1917

     [Transcriber's note:  Samuel Newton Reed was the son of William and Mary Reed mentioned above.]


Elizabeth Reed departed this life Oct 29, 1893

     [Transcriber's note:  I do not know for sure which Elizabeth Reed this is. It could be a daughter of Benjamin & Elizabeth (Hull) Reed who married John Potter in 1866. That Elizabeth Reed was born in 1825 in Rockbridge Co. (No proof).]
