VANDERVEER - son of John G. and Julia J. (Herbert) Vanderveer, was born in Monmouth county, New Jersey, August 16, 1829. In Middlesex county, New Jersey, June 15, 1854, he was united in marriage with Agnes W. Vanderhoof, who was born in Somerset county, New Jersey, February 4,1830. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Vanderveer are six: Emma, born October 6, 1855, lives in Rockbridge county; John G., born November 23, 1858; Herbert, October 18, 1863; Willie, August 20, 1866; Julia Virginia, August 3, 1859, and Charles, March 23, 1872. Since 1868 Mr. Vanderveer has been a residnet of Rockbridge county, Virginia, and he owns 400 acres of land on Walkers creek, where is found some of the finest specimens of marble in America, nearly equal to the Carrera marble of Italy. Crook" ********************************************************************** VETHAKE-- Henry Vethake was a native of British Guiana who was graduated from Columbia College in 1808. He practiced law and also engaged in educational work. In 1835-36 he was president of Washington College, and until 1859 he held the chair of mental and moral philosophy.
