John Ruffner Ruley married Ethel Va. Tolley. Their divorce case. During the last week of August 1912, John, accompanied by with Reid Agnor, Robert Moris, Willie Funkhouser, and Walton L. Funkhouser were at a Firefighter's convention in Roanoke. John was purported to have visited a bawdy house. John Ruffner Ruley and Ethel Va. tolley were married 16 April 1908, he was age 22, she age 17. He was a son of William and M. J. Ruley. She was a daughter of Webb and Maggie Tolley. John was a carpenter by trade. Their only child died in infancy.
