William Priestley, Jr. Land Grant, 1801 - Rockbridge Co. VA WILLIAM PRIESTLEY (JR.) VA LAND GRANT OF April 8, 1801: 45 Acres to William Priestley (Jr.), by virtue of a Land Treasury Warrant (VA Land Grant 47, pp. 605 & 606). This grant for 45 acres and a second VA Land Grant for 31 acres "on the waters of Buffaloe... adjoining William Skeen, Lewis, McCraw, and his own land," to William Priestley, are available on-line at the Library of VA's Digital Library "LAND GRANTS AND PATENTS." Click on the name, "PRICHARD," to get to the Priestleys, then go to cards #57 & 58. It appears that these two properties were included with the 115 acres inherited by William Priestley, Jr., in the sale of 196 acres on April 4, 1809, by the Wm. Priestley, Jr. Family to William Skeen (Rockbridge Co., VA Deed Bk. F, pp. 443 & 444). "James Monroe Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia to all to whom these presents shall come Greeting Know Ye, That by virtue of a land office Treasury Warrant number fourteen thousand three hundred and sixty six, issued the twenty fourth day of September Seventeen hundred and eighty two, there is Granted by the said Commonwealth unto William Priestley a certain tract or parcel of land containing forty five acres by Survey bearing date the second day of September one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine and being in the County of Rockbridge on the waters of Buffaloe, adjoining the lands of William Skeen, Lewis and McGraw, and his own land and bounded as followeth to wit, beginning at a Chesnut and poplar corner to Lewis and McGraw, thence with these lines South sixty five degrees West eighty seven poles to a chesnut then South fifty and a half degrees East one hundred and sixty five poles to a large white oak, then South fifty seven degrees East fifty eight poles to a dead chesnut corner to said Priestleys old survey, then with a line of the same, forth thirty degrees West one hundred and sixty poles to a Stake corner to William Skeen, then North twelve degrees East ten poles to the beginning with its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or property land with its appurtenances to the said William Priestley and his heirs forever, In Witness whereof the said James Monroe esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia hath hereunto set his hand and caused the lesser seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond, on the eighth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and one and of the Commonwealth the twenty fifth.
