Rockbridge County, VA Deed Book 89, pp. 466-467. (Abstract)

15 March 1901
        E. A. Moore and M. A. Moore, his wife to H. L. Vest, all of
Rockbridge County, VA.
        In consideration of $5.00, E.A. Moore and M. A. Moore his
wife, grant unto the said H. L. Vest, with general warranty, a tract
of land containing 143 1/4 acres more or less, situate on the west
side of the South Mountain on the waters of the North branch of the
James River, and bounded as follows:

Beginning at a double fallen chestnut on a knob, on the top of the
South Mountain in a field corner to the lands of John Robinson, deceased, 
Running with a line of the same N 38, W 190 poles to the
intersection of this with James Laird's line,
With said Lairdís line, South 182 poles up a creek to a fallen
locust and chestnut stump corner to said Lairds;
N 66 3/4, W 100 poles to a leaning dogwood and pointers on said
Lairdıs line,
With a line of William Weaverıs land, formerly Henry Banksı, S 15, E
[ ] poles to the intersection of this with Zedekiah Shoemaker's line
on the top of the mountain;
With Shoemakerıs line N 4[ ], E 72 poles along the top of the
Mountain to a chestnut and spanish oak pointers corner to John
Robinsonıs land;
With the lines of the same along the top of the Mountain, N 26, E 23
poles to pointers on a knob,
N 51, E crossing Pryorıs Gap road, 129 poles to the beginning.

        Witness our hands and seals this 15th day of March 1901
